29. Eleventh seed Elena Dementieva
got past Ukrainian Tatiana
Perebiynis 5-7 6-4 6-0 to reach the
third round of the U.S. Open . The only
other time the pair had met was in 1999
when Russian Dementieva defeated the Ukrainian
6-0, 6-1. It was a different story Thursday,
however, as the hard-hitting Perebiynis
thumped winners past the 21-year-old from
the start. Refusing to be overpowered, Dementieva
clung on and turned the tide in the second
set with power play of her own. Perebiynis,
sensing her chance had gone, folded in the
third set as Dementieva advanced at a canter.
Ukrainian tennis players (Perebiynis,
Tatarkova, Beygelzimer)
remain only in Womens Doubles Competition.

28. Ukrainian Julia
Vakulenko lost her Second Round match
to World's number 9 Daniela Hantuchova of
Slovakia in straight sets. Vakulenko easely
lost first set: 0-6, but then managed to
claw her way back into the match against
Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) but fell short
0-6 6-7(5). Today another Ukrainian - Tatiana
Perebiynis - will fight against Russsian
Elena Dementieva. Meanwhile, all Ukrainians
made a successful start in Doubles
August, 27. Ukrainian's number 1 Tatiana
Perebiynis advanced to the Second Round
of the US open for the first time in her
career. Yesterday Perebiynis defeated Spain's
Marta Marrero in straight sets: 6-1 6-4.
Her next opponent will be number 11 Seed
Russian Elena Dementieva. Unfortunately,
Yulia Beygelzimer
lost to another Spanish Player - Maria Sanchez
Lorenzo in tough match: 6-7(10) 5-7.
August, 26. Young Ukrainian Julia
Vakulenko storms into the Second Round
of the US open defeating German veteran
Barbara Rittner in straight sets: 7-5 6-2.
Her next opponent wiil be number 9 seed
Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova. Meanwhile
another 2 Ukrainian girls: Tatiana
Perebiynis and Yulia
Beygelzimer will play their First Round
matches today. Beygelzimer qualified for
the Main Draw of Grand Slam tournament for
the First time in her career. In the Third
Round of qualifying Ukrainian beat Christina
Wheeler from Australia: 6-4 3-6 7-5. Yulia's
first opponent in the Main Draw will be
Spain's Maria Sanchez Lorenzo. Tatiana Perebinis
will face another Spanish player - Marta
Marrero.
August, 22. Among Ukrainian tennis
players it was only Yulia
Beygelzimer who won her Second Round
match in Qualifying competition at The US
open 2003. Beygelzimer has beaten Argentinian
Gisela Dulko: 2-6 6-4 2-6. Her next opponent
will be Australian Christina Wheeler, Ranked
173 in the World. Elena
Tatarkova lost to Christina Brandi of
Puerto Rico: 1-6 3-6 and Alyona Bondarenko
was beaten by Russian Alina Jidkova: 2-6
3-6.
August, 21. Yulia
Beygelzimer advanced to the Second Round
of qualifying, beating Zuzanna Hejdova (CZE)
6-3 6-3. Yuliana Fedak lost to Terin Ashley
of the United States. Meanwhile Women's
Singles Draw was announced. In the First
Round Tatiana Perebiynis
will play Marta Marrero of Spain and
Julia Vakulenko
will face German Barbara Rittner.
August, 20. Elena
Tatarkova and Alyona Bondarenko advanced
to the Second Round of the Women's Single's
qualifying at The US open. Tatarkova defeated
Natalia Gussoni of Italy: 6-4 6-2. Her next
opponent will be Kristina Brandi (PUR).
Alyona Bondarenko went trough the tough
match against Japan's Rika Fujiwara to win
7-6((10) 5-7 7-5/ She'll play Russian Alina
Jidkova in The Second Round
